How to Pronounce Letter G in Italian Language





Most Italian consonants are pronounced like in English.

One exception is letter G.

LETTER G

 

is pronounced

–> like j as in “Jeep” before e and i

 

Example: giro / jeero / trip

 

is produced

–> like g as in “go” before a, o and u

 

Examples:

gara / gahrah / race

guida / gweedah / guide

 

gh

is always pronounced

like g as in “gate

 

Example: laghi / lahgee/ lakes

 

gli

is pronounced like LL

as in “million

 

Example: luglio / loollyoh / July

 

gn

is almost like NI

as in “companion”

 

Example: ogni / ohnyee / every
